This is one of several renderings of Wayne Bartholomew, also known as "Swampthing." It is a caulk piece, measuirng approximately 18" by 24", and sells for $100. Contact The Gallery.
The interesting thing about this piece is the story "Swampthing" told Ike while Ike was completing another drawing of "Swampthing".
Read the complete story:
"My only son told me he was going to the police academy which was a surprise to me ‘cause he is a great cook and always said he wanted to go to culinary school…
well, when he told me he wanted to be a cop he was worried how I would take it … given the situation, you know…Well I told him, ‘Boy—you are my only son and no matter what, I’m always going to love you … whether you’re a cook, a crook, or a cop…no matter what, son…always remember that I love and respect you….But remember this boy, …if you’re gonna be a cop…be a good cop…do your job, son…’
‘And if you’re ever on the job and you see your old man running out the front door of the bank with a bag of money in one hand and a pistol in the other…do your job…do your job…
because there is one thing for certain and two things for sure. Death and taxes are for sure. And son—you’re daddy’s gonna do his job…yes, your daddy’s gonna do his job…that’s for certain.’"
